Kobetich Library in NE TacomaThe Kobetich Library in Northeast Tacoma opened in 1980, and is named to honor Mary Rose Kobetich, who served the Library and the Tacoma School District from 1914 until her retirement in 1965. Ms. Kobetich died in 1974, leaving part of her estate to the Library. It was her wish that a neighborhood branch library be built in the area to memorialize her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kobetich.

The land for the branch library was donated to the Tacoma Public Library in 1977 by Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Sokolowski.

The 5,000 square foot library was designed by Seifert and Forbes, Architects, Tacoma, and is surrounded by more than 7.5 acres of green-belt park.

Featured on the exterior wall of the library is a copper and wood wall relief sculpture by Olympia artist David Gallagher.
