Free computer classes now available!

Free computer classesThe Tacoma Public Library offers free hands-on classes to familiarize computer users with basic and advanced features of a variety of online programs.  The classes are ideal for the new and not so new computer user who wants to learn and practice in a casual environment before venturing on their own to explore the Web. Space is limited to insure personalized instruction and advance registration is required. Reservations can be made by clicking on the class name below or by telephoning Telephone Reference at (253) 292-2001.

All classes are scheduled at Tacoma's downtown Main Library's computer training room.  The Main Library is located at 1102 Tacoma Avenue South.

COMPUTER CLASSES

Mouse & Keyboard Fundamentals

When: Tuesday, April 28, 2015 - 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM 
Where: Main Library at Computer Classroom 

Learn to navigate the Web comfortably with the mouse and other keyboard tricks and tips. This is a great class to start with if you are just becoming familiar with computers. Advance registration required - register online or call Telephone Reference at (253) 292-2001.

Basic Online Applications & Forms

When: Wednesday, April 29, 2015 - 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM 
Where: Main Library at Computer Classroom 

Join this computer session for hands on practice filling out online forms and applications. Perfect for the person applying for jobs or signing up for other online opportunities. Beginning Gmail

When: Friday, May 01, 2015 - 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM 
Where: Main Library at Computer Classroom 

This class will teach the basics of registering for an email account with Gmail and performing simple functions within Gmail’s system. Learn how to create and send emails, reply to email, check email and delete unwanted email. Requires ability to use a mouse. MS Word 2010 Basics

This class will teach you the basics of understanding simple toolbar functions, creating and spell-checking a document, editing, saving and printing. Also explains basic differences between Word 2007 and the 2010 release. Requires ability to use a mouse. Downloading Books with Overdrive

When: Wednesday, May 06, 2015 - 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM 
Where: Main Library at Computer Classroom 

Participants will be introduced to the logistics of downloadable audio and ebooks: where can they be found and what software is needed to transfer them to personal computers and devices. Introduction to IT Academy

When: Thursday, May 07, 2015 - 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

The Microsoft IT Academy E-Learning Curriculum allows patrons to access over 400 online courses (at no cost to them) related to computers and Microsoft products and applications. This course introduces patrons to navigating simple software tutorials and more advanced Windows Server coursework. These courses will prepare patrons for Microsoft Certification if they so choose. Learn Internet Basics

When: Friday, May 08, 2015 - 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Want to be grounded in the basics of Internet navigating and searching before striking out on your own? Students will learn key vocabulary, and how to navigate from website to website.
